If you don’t understand research, you won’t be able to read research articles. You won’t be able to write a grant proposal. You won’t be able to write a paper. - Learn to listen
This is an important skill that many researchers don’t have. When you’re in a meeting with a bunch of researchers, you should be able to listen to them and understand what they’re saying.
