Taxes in Serbia
The Serbian Tax Act of 2014, which came into force on January 1, 2015, sets out the tax system for businesses, entrepreneurs and individuals. It provides a simplified system for the taxation of businesses, entrepreneurs and individuals who are working from home or abroad. The system is based on the International Convention on the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income and on Capital, signed by Serbia in 1994. The Convention provides the basis for taxation in Serbia and, in turn, the basis for taxation in other countries. The Convention does not apply to taxes that are levied on a territorial basis, such as property taxes and taxes on sales, but only to taxes that are levied on an income basis, such as income tax.
The Act applies to individuals and businesses that are incorporated in Serbia and to individuals who are not incorporated but are registered as self-employed in Serbia.
